The Reveal: Master Bedroom
Building the king upholstered canopy bed. Yes, BUILT, from scratch and I couldn’t be more tickled with how it turned out. My inspiration bed wasn’t fitting into the budget and I didn’t want to compromised so the week the challenge started I committed to figuring out how to build this bed… without any type of tutorial (because one doesn’t exist. My tutorial is coming soon!). The construction of the bed started with a trip to the lumber yard to purchase ASH wood (stains similar to white oak, hard wood, half the price). Took 5 pieces of lumber, trimmed them down, stained them and constructed an entire king bed! (see week 4 for all the details).
The upgraded decor with Blue & Co. a company who creates designer pillows and names them after those who have Autism. Sitting down and designing custom pillows to elevate the space was such a fun process for myself who mainly works with power tools. Use the code HONEY15 for 15% off your entire order 🙂
The ceiling was already part of the space, but painting it extra white to match the walls really makes the room feel so much more cohesive, and how about that ceiling fan. #allthehearteyes.
Board and Batten around the entire room. This install took up the first two weeks of the one room challenge and I think pictures showcase how drastic of a change it made in the room for minimal cost. I decided to rip down 1/2″ MDF into 2″ strips and 5″ strips to achieve a floor to ceiling vertical board and batten. Painting was a little but more difficult of a feat than I had anticipated. Switching from Revere Pewter to Sherwin Williams Extra White makes the space feel fresh, a little luxurious, and much larger.
High & Mighty helped hang these HEAVY mirrors without tools, yes! Isn’t that crazy? They recreated a strong enough bracket that goes into the sheetrock. No need to find a stud or use drywall anchors. A quick tutorial on how I hung these can be found here.
The area rug from Boutique Rugs is seriously one of my favorite items in the room and really makes the whole space feel cohesive, grounded, and complete. Be sure to use code: HONEYBUILTHOME55 to get 55% off the Moseley 8×10.
